Slowing Down Time

I recently went to New York City (“10 Inspirational Quotes about New York City”) and noticed that I was just as busy as I am at home, however, there was enough time to get everything done with time to spare!  It was as if time had slowed down even in the hustle and bustle of Manhattan

When I travel, I slow down because everything is new and I need, and want, to be more present and aware of my surroundings.  I need to take in new information, so I need to slow down and take it in. Time seems to slow down and I feel more peaceful.

So how do you keep New York City new?

I believe my perception of time, and life, slows down when I am experiencing new things because I pause to take things in.  This pause grounds me versus letting my autopilot ideas and actions sweep me through my day.  My perception of time slows down and makes me feel more alive.

As shared in “5 Reasons to Live in The Present Moment” and “The Best Reason to Live in The Present Moment”, by putting full attention to your life in this moment you are filling up the moment with life; joy, peace, and love happen in the present moment.

I notice that I am often on autopilot.  According to Wikipedia, autopilot is a system used to control the trajectory of a vehicle without constant ‘hands-on’ control by a human operator being required.  Why do something without the human part?

When a day goes by too fast and feels hectic,  I probably didn’t let anything in and not because I took too much in!

When I have a strong mediation practice I also feel that time slows down.  Being a careful observer of my thoughts slows me down- a different form of pausing, being 100% present, and taking in new ways of being.
